Click here for accommodation in Punta Prima
Punta
Prima ( My own favourite resort ) located in the south east corner of Menorca and just 15 minutes away
from the airport is a small well laid out resort with a spacious open
feel. You will find a good selection of bar / restaurants overlooking the
beach along with two well stocked supermarkets selling everything you will
need for day to day living, plus a couple of gift shops and car hire etc.
Currency exchange is available in a number of outlets, including the
supermarkets.
Punta Prima has a
very good and extremely attractive beach of fine white sand with plenty of
space for everyone. But please note it can be dangerous with strong
currents at certain times. There is a warning flag above the red cross
building at the rear of the beach this tells you when it is safe to swim,
please take note of it.
Like all of
Menorca's beaches it can accumulate [sometimes large heaps] Neptune grass
on the water line. This only occurs early in the season or after a storm
and is usually cleared up quickly, and should not be too much of a
problem. Two bars / restaurants front onto the beach serving everything
from cool drinks and snacks to the full menu.
Punta Prima has a
good choice accommodation ranging from 5 star hotels, quality hostels and
apartments complex's, plus a selection of good privately owned
property to rent.
A
number of easy walks can be found in and around
this, the south east corner of the island. As the terrain is relatively
flat, non of them are too strenuous. Our favourites are along the coast
line in both directions, east towards Cala Alcaufar and S'Algar and west
taking you to cala Biniancola. Taking the coastal road passing through
Biniancola and onto Binibequer is also quite popular. There is also a land
train running between Punta Prima and Binibequer in season which picks up
anywhere between the two resorts.
A bus service runs
to the capital Mao [Mahon] via the small village of Sant Llouis, a pretty
little town full of character and well worth a visit. Other places near by
worth visiting are S'Algar, Cala Alcaufar and Binibequer [Binibeca].
There has been a
lot of development in the last two or three years, and there are plans to
re design the beach front and build a promenade along the length of the
resort, Punta Prima is growing into a fine place to take your holidays.
